I keep believing I’m “not a language person.” How do you kill that voice?

10 hours into Spanish and the old story is loud: some people just have the gene, I don't. I know it's probably nonsense but it still stops me. For those who got past it — what actually shut that voice up? Was it a milestone, a mindset, or just stubbornly showing up until it got quiet?

It didn't die from a milestone for me — it died from boredom. I showed up so many times that the 'you can't do this' voice ran out of evidence. There's no language gene. There's an hours gene, and you build it by sitting down again.

'It ran out of evidence' is going on a sticky note. Thank you — showing up tomorrow.

The first time I laughed at a joke before translating it, the voice just went quiet. Couldn't argue with the fact that I'd understood. Keep feeding the input — your own brain hands you the proof eventually.
