Stop buying single-word flashcard decks. Mine sentences instead.

Worked for them: Language Reactor

Hard-won lesson after 300 hours: a deck of isolated words taught me to recognize words I couldn't actually use. Switched to mining whole sentences out of things I watched — the word, in context, with a real example I'd heard. Recall went up, boredom went down. If your Anki feels like a chore, it's probably full of naked words.

Switched to sentence mining and my Anki stopped feeling like a chore overnight. Words in context just stick — and you learn how they're actually used, not just what they mean in a vacuum.

Only thing I'd add: keep the cards low and ruthless. A few real sentences you actually heard beats 50 random ones. Quality reps over volume.
